Welcome!
Welcome to Mrs. Brett's Kindergarten Class! This year will be an exciting and fun adventure. We will learn many new things, make lots of friends, and learn to become more independent. Our kindergarten teachers work together as a team. We believe that it is important to look at the child as a whole, and that education is more than just reading, writing, and math. We make sure that children have many opportunities to move about, enjoy the arts, and have chances to work on their social skills. I look forward to meeting you and your children. We are going to have a great year!
Library
Library day is always on Tuesday. Please help your child to remember to return their book by Monday so that they can choose a new one!
Full Day Kindergarten
We will transition to full days on Monday, September 17.
Thursday Folders
Each week we will send home a folder on Thursdays (Wednesday if there is no school on Friday). It is full of your child's work from the week and any important notices. Please take a few moments to go through the papers with your child and ask them about their work. Return the folder to school on the next school day. Your child will earn stickers for returning their folder on time.
What's New
HANDWRITING WITHOUT TEARS
We are well into the school year and we are working diligently on improving our penmanship. We use Handwriting Without Tears to teach letter formation and placement on the paper. We use 4 shapes to create all letters: big line, little line, big curve, little curve. We use a golf pencil to help with the pincer grip and increase muscle tone. All letters start at the top! ( Numbers, too.) As you practice with your child at home, watching to make sure that your child forms the letters correctly will help create that muscle memory for their hands and brain, making it easier to simply write the letters without thinking about it, also known as automaticity.
