A Little About Our Classroom

Language Arts and Math are a part of every day.   Language Arts includes reading stories, phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words (also known as high frequency words), writing, and comprehension.  (Whew!)  In Kindergarten, our math focuses on reading, writing, and recognizing numbers to 20; counting to 100, and simple addition and subtraction to 10.  In addition to these core subjects, we also make Social Studies, Art, and recess a part of our regular day.  We are embracing the new science standards, which includes some fun engineering experiments for our kinders.  We end every day with music

Classroom Rules & Expectations

We reinforce three rules in our classroom. Show respect, solve problems, and make good decisions. This encompasses the following:
  1. Follow directions.
  2. Feet and Hands to yourself.
  3. Small voices inside, tall voices on the playground.
  4. Work together, get along, and respect each other.
  5. Take care of your things and keep the classroom neat and clean.
In kindergarten, we understand that children are learning the boundaries of their bodies and they are still learning the social skills of how to get along with others.  They are not always aware of where their body ends and the next child's body begins.  We don't expect children to be perfect, just pretty good most of the time.

We believe in logical, natural consequences.  We take care of problems when we see them occur or when children let us know about them.  While we try to keep a tight reign on problems, sometimes things happen without us knowing.  Please let me know if your child is having a problem.  It is important for all children to feel safe at school.
