During the first week of school, I focus on building a sense of community and establishing our daily procedures and routines with the students.  While I welcome, appreciate, and count on the help of parent volunteers in the classroom, our volunteer schedule will not start until Wednesday, September 4.  In previous years, it has been most helpful when parents sign up for a specific day and block of time each week.  (I am going to need the most parent help first thing in the mornings during our math block which runs from 9:00-10:15 a.m.) This ensures consistency in the classroom support we receive which benefits both the students and myself.  At Back to School Night, I will ask you to fill out a section on the parent profile which tells me what days and times you are available to volunteer.  From there, I will generate a volunteer calendar and post it on my webpage.  If there are any unfilled days and times, I will send out a class e-mail letting parents know what support is still needed.

Please note:  There are new requirements for parent volunteers.  Not only do parents have to be fingerprinted, but they must also have a Level 1 clearance to volunteer in the classroom and a Level 2 clearance to chaperone on field trips. Services to complete fingerprinting will be available at Back to School Night on August 14.  The cost for fingerprinting is $70, and you must have cash to pay for the service. Please click on the link to below read more about parent volunteer requirements and to print the forms you will need.  http://www.rescueusd.org/Resources/Volunteers/index.html

If you are unable to work in our classroom on a weekly basis, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to help in other ways.  For example, you can volunteer to help with classroom parties and special events such as field trips and school-wide fundraisers such as the Fun Run, Harvest Festival, and Read-a-Thon.  Please visit the field trips section of website to see what dates parent chaperones are needed. We hope having the schedule in advance is helpful!

As always we are in need of a Room Parent or Co-Room Parents.  The main job of the room parent is to plan our classroom parties (We have a total of four parties:  Halloween, Winter, Valentine's Day, and End of the Year) and organize what is needed from our class for school-wide events such as the Harvest Festival, Field Day etc.  To make the job of the Room Parent easier, I will encourage the use of Sign-Up Genius to help organize classroom parties and donations.

Finally, if you have any special talents or skills you want to share with our students, please make note of it on the student profile sheet I am sending home after Back to School Night or e-mail me to see about arranging a time for you to present or work with our class.  Last year one of my parents worked at Intel, so she offered to do a series of presentations on Internet Safety with my class which were invaluable.  We also had a grandparent with a music background, and she ended up teaching music to all the third grade classes once a month.  These type of experiences are what enrich our program and the students' year, so please make me aware of other ways you would like to contribute to our community!

Thank you in advance for your generosity and time!  I look forward to working with you this year.
