Dear Rescue Families:

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! The staff here at  Rescue Elementary are looking forward to an excellent year of getting to know our families and students. Rescue Elementary has a rich tradition of academic rigor, character building and community involvement.  These values are extremely important as Rescue Elementary continues to move forward into the new school year and help children develop and grow to live rewarding lives.

The new school season can be an exciting time of the year for our staff, parents, and students. The anticipation of seeing friends, new teachers, and creating memories is a thrilling experience. We have many new things taking place on the Rescue campus year. We are welcoming some new PTC members: President: Jessica Joyce, Fundraising: Shelley Volpendesta, Events: Jessica Jaco, Coordinator: Rachel Korb, Treasurer: Claire Fullard, Secretary: Christina Tackett, Parliamentarian: Bree Harris. We are grateful for all the support this team gives to the students and staff.  I encourage you to stop by and take a look at our recently improved kindergarten/TK playground. We have new playground turf that will allow us to use the lawn all year, repainted pavement lines, and the new shed is ready to use. RUSD has also adopted the newly developed Next Generation Science Standards approved TWIG Science curriculum for the upcoming school year. Our teachers will be trying new hands-on lessons as we work through the best way to implement engaging science lessons in the classroom.  Our much-loved librarian, Sheri Allen, retired last year, but we are happy to announce Victoria Kinney as our new Rescue Librarian. Victoria previously worked in our special education department and is looking forward to sharing her love of reading with our students. We are also thrilled to welcome Kylie Owen as a new Second Grade teacher and Cara Palmer as a new Fifth grade teacher this year. They are excited to join the Rescue family and work with their outstanding grade level teams.  Jennifer Kunkle and Jenna Ford will both be teaching two separate transitional kindergarten (TK) classes this year.  We are truly fortunate to have two classes of TK to get a headstart here at Rescue Elementary.

We will be using the Parent Portal (Aeries) to notify families of their child's class assignment for the 2023-24 school year. In the spirit of protecting each family's confidentiality, a child's class assignment will be available to parents through their Parent Portal account on August 8th after 4:00 pm. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 9th. Please refer to the bell schedule for your child's designated time. Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, August 10th. The evening schedule is staggered to accommodate parking and families with multiple siblings. More information about Back to School Night is listed below.

As your principal, I enjoy being on campus with the students and engaging with families. Please feel free to take the opportunity to introduce yourself as we start the new school year. I am looking forward to a year of positivity and new beginnings with the start of the 2023/2024 Rescue Elementary school year.
Sincerely,

Todd McGinnis
